Joseph Becomes a Citizen of the United States!

Joseph may not understand what an honor it is to be a citizen of the United States.  We celebrated this special day with Joseph.

Happy Halloween 2011

Halloween was lots of fun!  Trick or Treating to see who could get the most candy is a family tradition.  Joseph and Brinlee have an ongoing battle to see who wins.  This year Brinlee got the most pieces and Joseph won by getting the pounds.  We'll see who wins next year!

First Day of 9th Grade

Joseph started ninth grade in September.  Looking back one year ago the progress he has made both in language and school is amazing.  One year ago Joseph could hardly speak English and didn't know his times tables.  I am happy to say that he is continuing to work hard in school and is developing great language skills.

Joseph and His Crazy Haircuts!

When we had a child with black hair we had no idea how different it is than white hair.  First of all, it appears to grow faster (of course it doesn't), but you notice the growth easier because it's so short.  Shawn has tried many times to get the perfect cut.  As you can see, we are still working on it!

We had a wonderful trip to Utah and Idaho.  This was our first vacation as a family of 7.  The drive was long, but we had such a good time that it didn't seem so miserable.  We started in Logan with the Benson's (Buddy and Cheryl).  Joseph connected instantly to Whitney and Max my sweet niece and nephew.  They are two of the nicest teenagers ever.  We stayed up way too late and enjoyed midnight volleyball, a fire and a game of family soccer.  After the Benson's we head down to Grandma Judee's in Spanish Fork.  Grandma spoiled us and we had a wonderful time with her and Aunt Kami's family.  We also made time to go to the Real SL game with the Logan Benson's.  We then headed up to Idaho and stayed one night with the Idaho Benson's (Jeff and DeAun).  The Logan Benson's joined us and we had fun staying together, all 21 of us!  We spent a lovely morning visiting my grandparent's graves and showing the kids around Ririe, the place Grandma B. grew up in.  After that we headed up to BYU Idaho and showed the kids around the campus.  Boy I love that place!  We then headed up to a cabin we rented in Island Park and the Benson's joined us at the Playmill theatre to see the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  We enjoyed a beautiful day in Yellowstone National Park.  It was the great vacation I have ever had and Joseph enjoyed getting to know all the cousins and family.

Joseph's 1st (sixteenth) Birthday!

Joseph Celebrated his 16th Birthday at Chuck E.  Cheese.  This is where he wanted to go.  He had a great time collecting tickets and then gave them all away to his siblings.  We also had a "home" party where he got his first bike.  This was a special birthday as it was the first time anyone celebrated with him.  A year ago he didn't even know when his birthday was.  What a great day we had!
